As Chungbuk National University is geographically adjacent to Osong Health Care Complex, which is aimed to focus on developing as the research complex on the national health care. Accordingly, Chungbuk National University has strived to reinforce the stature of the whole universities through specialization in medical-pharmaceutical field. As its one instance, the health-care and life-science field, which is led by College of Pharmacy, as a university of performing the Specialized Project for the Regional University supported by the Ministry of Education, was selected in November of 1997, and has been sustained the project so far. Meanwhile, as a policy for efficient university that considers the developmental tendency and the school conditions for the health-care science, based on this experience of the specialized project without stopping here, the university has made an endless effort to establish ‘university of health care and life science’ within the complex, which will play a role of the motive power in forming and activating Osong Health Care Complex. As a result, the health-care and life-science complex (tentative name) for Chungbuk National University was established in this April. The basic plan (book with 80 pages) was completed and announced. And then, it is now under discussion with the relevant agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Chungcheongbuk-do office, and the Ministry of Construction. During reaching the present after having been raised to the college of pharmacy in 1978 since having been established in 1956 as the department of pharmacy, the college of pharmacy at Chungbuk National University is recognizing both itself and others that has fostered the most excellent talents at Chungbuk National University. Due to the briskly research activity even now, it has ever been recognized as the first-place university(graduate school) in the evaluation of the nation’s universities and graduate schools in a series of pharmacy, which was carried out by Korean Council for University Education in 1997. Since the Research Institute for Development of Pharmaceutical Resources was started as the annexed research institute to the College of Pharmacy in 1969, it secured the position of the legal research institute by virtue of brisk research activities in full-time professors. It is reaching the present by being grown to the Research Institute for Development of Pharmaceutical Resources annexed to Chungbuk National University directly belonging to the head office by the policy for the headquarter of university in 1998. The Research Institute for Development of Pharmaceutical Resources is the singly legal research institute among medical-pharmaceutical research institutes within Chungbuk National University, and is the most energetic in the research activity, thereby being expected to be the central research institute that will play a role of motive power in this university policy. Accordingly, the headquarter of university aims to foster the Research Institute for Development of Pharmaceutical Resources as a specialized future symbol of the annexed research institute to Chungbuk National University, and will not spare all the resources as far as budget is allowed. The corresponding-investment part in university will be certainly secured in order to possibly secure the full-time research manpower. And, several supports and encouragements will be concentrated over the wholly academic activities in other research institutes. Thus, the aim is to allow it to stretch indeed to the research institute in Chungbuk area in the global level in the near future. In addition to the support for the expenses of operating research institute, the research-support expenses in total 38 million won by 2 million won per one full-time professor are in a state of being already secured budget for this year. Also, it was selected as the research institute in the target of the intensive-support project of the research institute annexed to university by Korea Research Foundation for 1999, thereby having already secured the research-expense support in totally 340 million won and the corresponding investment in 90 million won, and speeding up research activities.
